Barrier Training

Award winning graduate from Tocal Agricultural College, Rowan Sheridan grew up with horses in Murrumbateman, New South Wales.  An enthusiastic and competitive pony club member, Rowan had particular success in mounted games.  As a teenager he exploited his skills by retraining problem ponies.  Rowan went on to work with Peter Jones, (a long time friend of Andrew McLean) a professional horse trainer from Canberra who introduced him to the application of learning theory to horse training.

Rowan earned valuable animal management skills whilst working in a variety of occupations including stable hand, stock management and general farm work.  He also volunteered with the Riding for the Disabled and upon completing school decided that he wished to pursue a career with horses.

Rowan began his traineeship at AEBC in January 2009 and is fast becoming a valuable member of staff as he revels in the learning environment here; teaching individually and in clinics, problem solving with clients and their horses and starting young horses under saddle.  Rowan is a talented trainer who can turn his hand to any discipline and enjoys developing a broad range of skills including dressage, jumping, barriers and galloping racehorses, training tricks, camp drafting and all in between.

Rowan also has a keen interest in farriery and hoof care as he sees it as integral to the overall health and performance of the horse.
